How It Does Look

Between finishing the printing and sending off the product there was just enough time to do a little photoshoot of the garments, kindly modeled by Alex King and Dolly Dewhurst-Marks, and photographed by the Kindler.

The Printing

Momentous occasion #1, printing.

Momentous occasion #2, having a 'moment'

Momentous occasion #3, hanging to dry

Momentous occasion #4, packing the boxes.

The project is officially finished on my behalf. Without writing anything further the most important thing to do at this stage is thank Muma, Papa and Sister Chapman, Ben Kindler, Alex King and Dolly Dewhurst-Marks for all the help and support they offered.

The process got pretty difficult at times and without everyone's help i'm in know doubt it wouldn't have got finished in time.

So without further ado here is a small selection of the many photo's from the process.

How it'll look

above is a quick mock up of how the designs should look once they've been printed on the garments. Didn't want to spend too long doing this so it's a little rough around the edges but you get the idea. Looks Sweet!

Hoodie Design

The Above is the final image to be featured on the Zip-through hoodie. the design will be printed in large scale on the back of the top, hopefully creating a bold logotype.

Colourways are not decided, featured is the so hot right now CM, of CMYK. however colours are subject to change. The garments are Navy Blue and Charcoal Grey so colours will be light, and likely fairly pastel.

Watch this space...

Supplies

Today marks an important day in the production of the clothing, orders have been placed to screen suppliers for the inks and meshes to print the clothing. A painful amount of money was parted with but soon the rewards shall be reaped.

T-Shirt Design

Above is the final design for the breast of the TShirts. The concept plays heavily on the Royal Armouries identity, shapes and features taken from the image have been borrowed or manipulated to create this design.

"Leeds Surf Cub" will be printed in the bottom right of the shirt, above the hem. in doing this the shirt will be more dynamic, and have two focal elements.

Colors are subject to change, there will be a series of prints in different tones on different coloured fabrics.

Watch the space for more updates on progress of the hoody design, work coming soon.

Smack the Pony

After what seems like an eternity, and having battled with a design i did not only believe in, nor have the desire to complete there has been a change of direction, starboard side.

The move is not a total digression and has been informed by the many citations and decisions taken to get to this point.

Image coming soon

Progress

Above is the latest piece of progress with regard to the design.
I have taken the original Leeds Coat of Arms design and traced the basic composition and shape.

Following this i have re-designed it using some of the elements we had chosen. In the middle image you can see both layers together to hopefully get a rough idea of how the image has changed but the composition has remained similar.

I have replaced the shield with a surfboard, the Owls with waves, the floral decoration with a rising sun and have kept the text scroll the same. in doing this i hope the image has become more relevant to the group it represents, whilst maintaining a reference to the Leeds area.

The above are working drawings, anything can be changed and the texture and weight of line will evolve, most importantly the lines will likely have more variation and certain areas will be shaded and possibly coloured.

Design Features

having researched, developed and discussed we've settled on a few features that are almost definite for inclusion into the design. I really like the Coat of Arms avenue and am looking to keep the composition of the Leeds Coat of Arms whilst changing the individual components to something more representative of the Surf Club.

Listed are: Ribbon Scroll, Waves, Surfboard, Rising Sun and floral Japanese elements, all of which will hopefully be tangible together to make a final design.

Siggi Eggertsson Cont.

I really really like this guy! These ones in particular.

Siggi Eggertsson

Some of the softer imagery on the Organik Cotton t's reminds me of this guy who shreds that shit up and did it about a million years before anyone else. There is a film about him, i think it's called 'the godfather'.

Check it: http://www.vanillusaft.com/

Font

The font in one of the t's from Organik Cotton is very similar to something i designed for The Frantic a while back. It is a nice font and i've never printed it properly so it could be nice to use here somehow.

Mathew Dent

The big chill image you posted is very similar to this guy, who actually did one of their designs. It is very playful and quite endeering however quite contradictory to the 'Organik Cotton' works which are more vector based illustrations. both are valid and suitable but may not work particularly well together.

good blogging son!

It's really interesting to see the two images relevant to Leeds and its history. Adding this element to the design encorperates some semiology and depth to the work. look that 'totally graphic design dude' phrase up if I'm losing you.

I'd like to re-work the coat of arms with some relevant features. perhaps keeping the composition of the piece but completely changing the elemets to something more modern and surfesque could work?

Imagine the Leeds Coat of Arms but instead of Owls you had dudes with masks on, and rather than floral whisps at the top you had some green leaves and branches similar to the 'Organik Cotton' t's.

The Big Chill

This is sickkkk aswell

Another angle....sutsu

Heres a surfing clothing company which i quite like. The tshirts are all kinda geeen, hippy, modrern, nature style which fits with the surfing theme. These designs are quite cool. What u think? Perhaps a bit simple? I like the company cos they are all green and sustainable.....check it out http://sutsu.com/

Coat of arms

On the coat of arms note, heres the leeds one. Might be able to incorporate something into the design to make it relevant to leeds?

Also below that is the Royal Armouries Logo. Its quite well known in leeds and its pretty cool.

Coat of Arms

Having just mentioned Coat of Arms in previous post i had a look around at some imagery. They are beautiful illusrtrations and have such a unique sense of representation. They were obviously designed as identities for the group they represented, which is exactly what i am trying to do with LSC, i want to look further into this.

Coat of Arms have been rinsed by clothing brands such as Levis and Ktusbi. i don't want to make the imagery look cliche but think it is a very interesting avenue to go down. with some tweaking and by altering the individual components of a Coat of Arms an appropriate and deep image could evolve.

eagles & hawks

mad into eagle and hawk illustrations lately, particularly within tattoos and medieval coat of arms. They are rich visually and have many connotations. the idea of bird is not only badass for an illustration but also signifies freedom and nature. not to get too cheesy on your vibe but this could be nice no?

Sam Murdoch

This kid is killing it with the symmetrical visuals. The top image is a screenprint - a great example of brilliant use of colour.
